The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Wasit was established in 2006. Initially, it was a department under the College of Education, but in 2010, it became an independent college. The first dean of the college was Dr. Faisal Yasin Shati Al-Waeli, who held a Ph.D. in History, which he obtained from Russia. At the time of its founding, the college included a number of qualified Iraqi academic staff.
